A 76-year-old cyclist is fighting for life after he was hit by a transit van in Ealing this morning.

Part of Northfields Avenue near the junction with Salisbury Road was cordoned off by police after the accident at around 9.45am.

Ambulance crews arrived and London’s Air Ambulance landed in nearby Lammas Park as paramedics rushed to help the pensioner.

He was taken to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition, police say.

The man driving the flatbed van stopped at the scene and is currently being interviewed under caution by officers from the Met.

Barbershop owner Michael Kyriaokos described the vehicle involved as a "little truck" and said the bike was still in one piece when police arrived at the road.

Anyone with information should call the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Alperton on 0208 991 9555.
