An ex-boyfriend has been jailed for two years and six months after he stabbed his former partner and told her, “If I can’t have you no one can.”
He put a knife to her throat and taunted her saying: “If I can’t have you no one can.”
The victim sustained a 4cm deep stab wound to her torso, which later had to be stapled, and she received a cut to her arm during the attack on 13 October last year.
She managed to break free during the incident and she persuaded her ex Gordon to take her to hospital where she bravely raised the alarm.
Later that day, Gordon was arrested at his daughter’s home where he was found cowering under a bed.
He has been sentenced at Woolwich Crown Court to two years and six months in custody.
Gordon was also handed a restraining order prohibiting him from contacting the victim or her family or going to her home address.
He had been found guilty of wounding following an earlier trial at the same court and he had pleaded guilty to one count of having an article with a blade.
Jessica Lunan, from the CPS, said: “Phillip Gordon armed himself with a knife as he lay in wait for his former partner. After an argument where it was made clear that there was no chance of a reconciliation, he stabbed her.
“Domestic abuse can have a devastating impact and the victim in this case has been left traumatised by the attack on her.
“The CPS is absolutely committed to securing justice for victims of domestic abuse and will always prosecute these cases where there is the evidence to do so.”
