The parents of a baby boy who died from a head injury will go on trial next year accused of murder.

Three-month-old Rifat Mohammed was taken to a hospital in east London with critical injuries on July 4 this year.

Police were called by medical staff and he was transferred to a hospital in central London the following day where he died in the afternoon.

A post mortem examination gave his cause of death as a head injury.

Mohammed Miah, 36, and Rebeka Nazmin, 31, of St Leonard’s Road, Poplar, appeared at the Old Bailey on Friday, November 18 charged with causing GBH with intent and two counts of child cruelty.

At court, those charges were withdrawn and both defendants were charged with murdering their son and causing the death of a child, Scotland Yard said.

A trial date was set for Monday, February 27 at the same court.
