Armed police seized this assault rifle after storming an address in south London today.

Officers from the Met's Specialist Firearms Command also found a machete after raiding the property in Moremead Road, Sydenham, at about 4pm.

Police say they were called to reports of a rifle being "seen during a disturbance" in the street.

Officers tweeted that the weapon was a replica but could be converted to fire live ammo.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "Officers from Lewisham and from the Met's Specialist Firearms Command attended the location and forced entry.

"A firearm was recovered and will be taken away to be forensically tested.

"No shots had been fired and there were no reports of any injuries. A machete was also recovered at the address."

Three men have been arrested and are being held at a south London police station.
