Pippa Middleton’s father-in-law is being investigated in France over claims he raped a minor.
David Matthews, 73, father of financial financier James Matthews and former Made in Chelsea star Spencer Matthews, was indicted in Paris over a “rape on (a) minor", AFP news agency reported.
He was questioned on Tuesday by the Protection of Minors Brigade (BPM), according to a judicial source cited by the news agency.
On Thursday, he was indicted for "rape on minor by a person with authority over the victim" and placed under judicial control, said the source.
The allegation is believed to date back to between 1998 and 1999 and a complaint was made last year.
A spokesman for the Matthews family told the Standard: "David Matthews categorically denies the allegation and unequivocally contests the untrue and scandalous accusation.”
Pippa Middleton married James Matthews in May last year.
His father is an investment fund manager, former professional racer and heir to the Scottish title of Laird of Glen Affric.
