Police are appealing for a rape victim to contact them urgently as a man awaits trial over the north London attack.

The rape took place in Caledonian Road, Islington, at about 2am on March 1.

A passer-by witnessed the attack and he, along with a second man, managed to catch the alleged rapist.

The pair detained him until the police arrived - by which time the victim had left.

Police now want to find her as a man has been charged over the attack and is set to appear in court.

"While both men were busy detaining the suspect, the victim left the scene prior to police arrival," said a Scotland Yard spokesman.

"A further witness was subsequently traced who spoke to the victim immediately after the attack. They stated the victim had said she was staying with friends in Finchley Central while visiting London for the weekend."

Officers described the victim as white and in her mid-20s with curly hair.

Anyone with information is asked to call detectives on 020 7275 3489, 07717 421910 or 101 , or phone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
