Police are searching for a man and woman who stole £250 from an 80-year-old blind woman after trapping her in a lift.

Officers have released CCTV stills of a man and woman they want to speak to following the robbery.

It was carried out at a Greenwich council office in Wellington Street, Woolwich, where the victim was hoping to pay her council tax bill.

The thieves followed the woman into a lift at the council centre at about midday on Tuesday December 1, shortly after she had withdrawn the cash.

The man then physically prevented her from leaving as his accomplice stole her purse from her handbag, police said.

Detective Constable Danny Banks, of Greenwich CID, said: "This was a despicable crime carried out against an extremely vulnerable elderly woman.

“As the victim is blind the description given was limited but through CCTV enquiries we have identified these two suspects and we require the public's help to find them as quickly as possible.”

Anyone with any information should contact Greenwich CID on 07789 574 885 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
