Police are hunting a man after the attempted kidnap of a teenage girl in south-west London.

The 17-year-old victim was walking home from college at about 7pm on Tuesday in Churchill Gardens, Pimlico.

She stopped to cross the road when a man got out of a small red car and grabbed both of her wrists, Scotland Yard said.

Police said that he then put his hands on her waist in an apparent attempt to pull her inside the car before putting his mouth on her cheek.

A passer-by intervened and the suspect got into the car and drove away from the scene.

The suspect is described as a man of middle eastern appearance, aged about 30, 6ft tall and of large build with a full dark-coloured beard.

He wore a dark hooded top and dark trousers.

DC James Kapp, of Westminster CID, said: "This incident left the victim extremely shocked and upset, and we need to identify the suspect as soon as possible.

"We would particularly like to speak to the member of the public who intervened, and anyone else who may have witnessed this incident."

Anyone with information should call Westminster CID on 101atively contact Crimestoppers via 0800 555 111, or visit crimestoppers-uk.org.
