Police are hunting for a man who yelled racist abuse at a woman as she got off a Tube train.

The 61-year-old woman had just got off the Victoria Line train at the north London undergound station when a man began shouting racially offensive language at her.

British Transport Police is now appealing to the public to help find a man they want to speak to, after the incident which happened on the platform at Highbury and Islington station.

The woman was walking towards the exit at just before 8.30pm on Saturday, October 1, when the man shouted at her.

CCTV footage released today shows the man officers wish to speak to, who is wearing blue trousers and a black jacket.

PC Amir Darvish, who is investigating the incident, said: “Everyone has the right to travel without being abused for who they are.

“We simply will not standby and allow people to use threatening or intimidating language towards other passengers.

“I am very keen to hear from anyone who might have information on this incident. Did you witness it, or do you recognise the man we would like to speak with? Please get in touch.”

Anyone with any information is asked to text it to BTP on 61016 or call 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 290 of 31/10/2016. Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously to independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
