Police are investigating two shootings just hours apart in south London last night.
Major roads were closed as police launched an investigation after gunshots were heard in New Cross and Vauxhall.
Eyewitnesses described hearing "loud pops" on New Cross Road shortly after 8pm, before police descended on the high street and closed it off.
A bystander said: "I just heard a loud pop, looked down the road about 20 metres in front of me [and] I saw a male in a hoodie holding a gun just firing.
"[It] happened very quick then he ran off.
"[It was] just right outside [bookmakers] Coral and the car was on the other side.
"Think I heard about four or five shots. That was the scary part."
Less than three hours later officers were called again to reports of gunfire on Tyers Street in Vauxhall, five miles away.
During a sweep of the scene, police found evidence a gun had been fired in the area.
A spokesman for Scotland Yard said there was nothing to suggest a link between the shootings at this stage but officers retained an open mind about motives in both incidents.
There have been no reported injuries in either case, he added.
