Police investigating the case of a man apparently posing as award-winning photographer Sam Robinson have arrested a man on suspicion of fraud, it emerged today.

An imposter was allegedly assuming his identity to try to lure young women to fashion “photoshoots.”

Robinson, 34, spoke out to warn women who may have been approached on dating websites by a man pretending to be him.

Police initially told Robinson — who has studios in Islington and New York and whose clients include Nike, Dell, Sony and Vodafone — that no crime had been committed. Officers referred him to Action Fraud, a government agency that offers information on e-crime and fraud but has no investigative powers.

But after someone allegedly continued using Robinson’s identity, police arrested a 26-year-old man on suspicion of fraud. Detectives are understood to be analysing the man’s computer.

The man was bailed until next month pending further inquiries.
