Police are appealing for information after a pregnant woman was stabbed in a knifepoint robbery.

The woman, who is 20 weeks pregnant, was hurt in the early morning attack as she got into a minicab in Claredale Street in Bethnal Green.

The suspect was trying to rob the vehicle when the woman approached at 5.30am today. She was pushed into the back of the car, telling the man she was pregnant.

However he continued his attack, stabbing her in the leg and making off with her handbag.

The woman was taken to hospital for treatment to her injuries and discharged the same day. Her unborn child was unharmed.

The suspect, described as a slim 5'11" light skinned black male in his late teens, made off on foot. He was wearing a cycle mask which hid his mouth and nose.

Officers from Bethnal Green Robbery Squad are investigating.
