A puppy was stolen by violent robbers who posed as police to gain entry to a home in east London.

A 40-year-old woman was slapped around the head and hit on her thigh with an axe handle and a 34-year-old woman was punched in the face during the late night burglary in Leyton.

The dog, a white and tan coloured American bulldog worth £2000, was taken along with a laptop and mobile phones.

Three men knocked at the front door of the home in Church Road at half past midnight on January 17 claiming they were police officers.

They then forced their way into the front bedroom of the property and began assaulting the occupants and demanding money.

Waltham Forest police are appealing for anyone who has any information about this incident, or knows the whereabouts of the dog, to contact Detective Constable Jack on 020 8721 5042 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
