Three pupils have been arrested on suspicion of stabbing a 14-year-old classmate at a London school.

The three 14-year-old suspects, two boys and a girl, were questioned by police following the attack at Prendergast Vale College, Lewisham, on Wednesday afternoon.

The victim was taken to hospital and treated for a “puncture wound” to his leg. According to Scotland Yard his injuries were not believed to be life-changing and he has since been discharged.

The school in Elmira Street, which opened in 2011, was praised for providing a safe and secure environment for students in its most recent Ofsted report.

But inspectors who visited the school in November 2012 found that the behaviour of pupils, which has a high number of pupils with special education needs, was in need of improvement.

The three suspects were questioned by detectives at a South London police station and released on police bail. A spokeswoman for the London Ambulance Service said: “We were called just before 3pm to reports of a stabbing.

“We sent one ambulance crew to the scene and our staff treated one patient, reported to be a teenage boy. He was taken to hospital as a priority.”

A spokesman for Lewisham Borough Council said it would not be appropriate to comment while the police investigation was in progress.
