A single mother who could face jail for a road rage confrontation with BBC presenter Jeremy Vine as he cycled through London is appealing against her conviction, a court has heard.

Shanique Pearson, 22, was filmed by the TV star threatening to knock him out after he pulled his bike out in front of her car.

Hammersmith magistrates heard Pearson made a gun sign towards Mr Vine, 51, during the incident on August 26 last year.

She denied making the sign, claiming it was her middle finger instead, and said her shouts at Mr Vine were legitimate protest at the quality of his cycling.

Court appeal: Shanique Pearson, 22

Pearson, of Vauxhall, was due to be sentenced this morning at Isleworth crown court and has been told she faces a possible jail sentence.

But the sentencing hearing will be delayed as Pearson has lodged an appeal against her conviction for using threatening, abusive, or insulting words or behaviour.

In his verdict, the district judge said there was nothing wrong with Mr Vine's cycling, along a narrow road on his way home to Chiswick from the BBC studios in central London.

Following her trial last month, Pearson covered her head with her jacket as she left court and told waiting reporters "I'm not happy".

Pearson was not at court for today's hearing. Her appeal will be heard on April 18.
