A teenager who plunged a broken bottle into a shipping executive’s head to steal his Rolex after ambushing him as he left a West End nightclub has been jailed for 12 years.

Mowleed Abdullahi, 18, and an unknown accomplice staked out Tiger Tiger on Haymarket, waiting for a wealthy-looking customer to emerge before singling out Guy Broadley, 41, and following him to a quiet street.

He was caught on CCTV plunging the bottle into Mr Broadley’s head, before rifling through his pockets and stamping on his head twice.

The attack on January 6 was captured in full because a CCTV operator had spotted Mr Broadley urinating against a wall and had zoomed in on him while deciding whether to call the police.

He saw Abdullahi drag Mr Broadley to the ground and stab him repeatedly. As Mr Broadley lay on the ground, Abdullahi stole his mobile, wallet and a £4,000 Rolex which he gave to his friend.

Abdullahi, from Harrow, was arrested almost immediately. He was covered in blood and Mr Broadley’s wallet and phone were in his underpants.

Mr Broadley, a director of Singapore-based Commodity And Freight Services, suffered broken teeth and needed stitches to 24 stab wounds. Since the attack, he has suffered chronic headaches and still has shards of glass embedded in his scalp.

In a statement to the Old Bailey, he said he feared his scars would frighten his young children. He said he was still “bewildered by the intensity and the violence of the crime”. He thanked the CCTV operator, adding that he felt “lucky to be alive”. “If this had not happened in central London, if things had been different, then the outcome could have been very bad indeed,” he said.

Abdullahi admitted wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and robbery, while a charge of attempted murder was left on file.

Jailing Abdullahi for 12 years, Judge Christopher Moss QC said: “This was a sustained and ferocious attack on an innocent man whom you had selected — you caused 24 injuries and you stamped on the victim’s head.”

Craig Rush, defending, said Abdullahi had shown no emotion when he watched footage of the attack. “It’s like watching a TV programme — watching someone other than him,” he said.
