A 12-year-old girl was allegedly dragged into an alleyway and raped by a man in a balaclava, police said.
The schoolgirl is said to have been attacked from behind as she walked through Levenshulme in Manchester between 4pm and 4.30pm on November 22 last year.
Police said the girl reported the incident on Friday.
She told officers she was in Chapel Street near the Horsehoe pub when a man attacked her from behind, before dragging her into a back alley and raping her. The man then reportedly ran off.
The alleged attacker was described as wearing dark clothing, a woollen balaclava and was over 6ft tall.
Police said patrols have been stepped up in the area and they are conducting door-to-door enquiries.
Chief Inspector, John-Paul Ruffle, from GMP’s City of Manchester Team, said: “The girl is understandably very distressed and we continue to offer her our help and support.
“She was extremely brave reporting this to police and we will do everything in our power to find the man responsible for this attack.
“Detectives are currently gathering as much information as possible, while a team of officers have been speaking to residents in the local area to see if they heard or saw anything that night."
