Seven youths remain in custody tonight over the death of a 16-year-old in Elephant and Castle.

Detectives have formally identified the victim - was stabbed to death in the street after being surrounded by a mob of up to 30 youths – as Mohammed Dura-Ray, who was also known by friends as Mohammed Kwenga.

A post mortem examination today confirmed Mohammed died from a stab wound to the chest.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said seven males arrested over the incident in Canterbury Place on Monday night were still being held at stations across south London.

The 16-year-old, from the Aylesbury estate, was attacked by a group of youths on the Newington Estate at about 10.20pm.

The spokesman added enquiries were still continuing into the death, including whether the murder was gang-related.

Anyone with information is asked to call the homicide and major crime command at Lewisham on 0208 721 4805 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
