This is the shocking moment a van driver narrowly missed hitting a 14-year-old pedestrian after jumping a red light.

Ian Gruber, 39, was in a Ford Tipper when he drove through the light in Ewell, Surrey, while the schoolboy was crossing on a green man.

He was later identified and tracked down though dashcam footage from a nearby HGV driver.

PC Keiron Palmer, of Surrey Police, said: “Fortunately the 14-year-old was not hit, but things could have worked out very differently."

Gruber, of Beverley Way, Raynes Park, was found guilty of dangerous driving at Guildford Magistrates Court following the incident in Kingston Road in November last year.

He was given a six week sentence, suspended for 18 months and 80 hours community service. He also had his driving licence disqualified for 15 months and was ordered to pay costs of £230.

PC Palmer added: "This incident is a sharp reminder of what can happen if you are caught driving dangerously.

“[It] also demonstrates the important part dashcam footage can play in bringing about a successful prosecution.”
