This is the first picture of a father who became the sixth person killed in five days as London’s bloodiest year for more than a decade continued.

Lashawn Williams, 29, was beaten with baseball bats and stabbed to death by four hooded attackers as he made his way home early on Saturday, friends said today.

The father-of-two had been at a house party when violence flared in the street close to his home in Silvertown, east London.

Police were called to Hanameel Street shortly after 2am and Mr Williams was pronounced dead at the scene 45 minutes later.

His death brings the number of killings in London this year to 140, the highest total since 2008, including six since last Tuesday.

A resident in Silvertown said: “My mother and little brother saw everything. They saw him being beaten up, the men had weapons, baseball bats. They saw them pull out knives and stab him.”

Last night friends gathered at the scene to lay flowers. One told the Standard: “He was a loving father and would do anything for his kids.”

A cousin described Mr Williams as a “decent family man”, adding: “The family are devastated. He was a good guy who looked after his family. We just can’t believe he has gone.”

A 23-year-old man arrested in connection with the incident was released without further action.

Police today charged Kaziku Tuwisana, 31, of no fixed address with the double murders of two Eastern European men found with fatal stab wounds five miles apart in Barnet and Hertfordshire.

On Thursday, Ebrima Cham, 35, was stabbed to death in a “targeted attack” after three men burst into the house where he was staying in Hounslow.

Seven hours after police found Mr Cham’s body, Michael Paul Baptista, 24, was knifed to death in Bromley Road, Walthamstow. Oguzhan Altun, 29, was due to appear at Thames magistrates’ court today charged with murder.

Last Tuesday, Albert Amofa, 33, died two days after being stabbed in the leg outside his home in Croydon.
