Pop star James Arthur has been banned from driving for six months and slapped with a £2,000 fine after his Mercedes was caught speeding.

The 28-year-old singer’s car was caught on a speed camera in June last year, leading to Arthur’s fourth driving conviction in the space of two years.

The star shot to fame as the 2012 winner of X Factor, but his career was swiftly derailed by controversies.

However, Arthur is on the comeback trail, topping the charts last year with single Say You Won’t Let Go.

Arthur failed to reply to police in June last year after his silver Mercedes was caught on camera breaking the speed limit in Hanger Lane, west London.

The speed was not disclosed.

He dodged a ban in December 2015 after racking up 15 licence points. But Willesden magistrates yesterday gave Arthur another six points, leading to the ban.

The singer did not turn up to court for the briefing hearing as he is currently in the US promoting his album.

After hearing Arthur is currently earning £2,000 a week, magistrate Clive Bruton imposed a six-month ban as well as a £2,000 fine and £255 in court costs and fees.

The court heard Arthur had a speeding conviction from July 2014, and two previous offences of failing to tell police who was driving in June and December 2015.

He committed his latest infringement when his car was caught speeding in Hanger Lane, Ealing, on June 13 last year, and he failed to tell police who was driving.

Arthur, of Brentford, wrote to the court to plead guilty to failing to give information relating to the identification of the driver in November last year, with the case adjourned until yesterday.

The singer will be informed in writing about the ban and told to pay the fine and fees.
