A knife fight in north-east London left two teenagers in hospital with serious stab wounds.

Police were called to the fight in George Lane, near South Woodford Tube station, just after midnight last night. When officers arrived they found two boys with serious injuries – one in George Lane and the other in the nearby Broadmead Estate.

The pair, aged 16 and 18, were taken to hospital, where they are in a serious but stable condition, Scotland Yard said. No one has been arrested.

Commuters this morning took to Twitter to ask why their roads were taped off.

DJ Madhandz ‏(@DJMadhandz) tweeted: "Anyone know why the police have #southwoodford taped off? Looks like a ghost town."

Gary Z ‏(@thelondoncabco) added: "What happened in #southwoodford last night? Police tape down #georgelane."

George Lane remains shut this morning between High Road and Eastwood Road.

Anyone with information about the stabbing is asked to call the Met’s Redbridge police team on 101, or to phone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
