This is the first picture of a man who was chased by a gang of thugs and stabbed to death in front of terrified schoolchildren.

Augustus Fenton, 27, desperately fled past a parade of shops as the pursuing gang lashed out with deadly weapons in Southall.

He reportedly collapsed in the street and was beaten and stabbed several times during the attack in Featherstone Road at school leaving time at 3.30pm on Tuesday.

He was believed to have been with his older brother, who witnesses said was also slashed but managed to flee into a local health centre to get help.

Paramedics fought to save the victim before he was airlifted to an east London hospital where he was pronounced dead 12 hours later, at 3.45am on Wednesday.

He and his brother were seen to pull up in Featherstone Road in a black Nissan 4x4 before being spotted by the gang and chased.

A 23-year-old woman, who works nearby, said: “One had a blue baseball bat and they were all running towards that guy in the car.

“He got out and started running. Apparently one of them had a knife and stabbed them but all I could see was them beating him with the bat.”

She added: “The gang ran off towards Sussex Road. They were running off smiling and hugging each other which was quite weird.

“It was very scary for it to happen in broad daylight with all these kids around.”

Next of kin have been informed, police said.
