An elderly woman is fighting for her life in hospital after what is believed to have been a domestic incident in north London.

She suffered life-threatening injuries, while a man suffered stab wounds that are not thought to be life-threatening. Both are thought to be in their 70s.

Police were called soon before 8.30pm to a residential address in Southgate Road, Islington, and found the man with knife injuries and the woman, who was unresponsive.

The woman was initially thought to have also been stabbed, but it was later confirmed she had not been, police said in a statement.

No arrests have been made and no other details were available.

Residents shared footage of the scene on Twitter, as a stream of emergency crews flocked to the residential road.

An air ambulance arrived in nearby park Rosemary Gardens, while other London Ambulance Service vehicles lined the streets.

There have been no arrests. Officers are still working to fully understand the circumstances, MPS Islington said in a statement.

A crime scene remains in place.
