Southwark council faces trial accused of breaching 22 safety regulations following the blaze at Lakanal House in 2009 which left six people dead.

An inquest in 2013 heard a fire sparked by an electrical fault in a TV spread through the 14-storey block in Camberwell at a speed which shocked firefighters.

Jurors found “numerous opportunities” were missed by the council to check fire safety.

London Fire Brigade has brought the prosecution under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

The case is set to be heard at Southwark Crown Court on January 11.
