A woman and a man have been arrested following fierce clashes at St Pancras station during a pro-refugee demonstration.

Missiles including smoke bombs were hurled at police as protesters stormed through a line of officers during Saturday evening's unrest at the major London terminal - which is where Eurostar trains from the continent arrive in the capital.

On Sunday British Transport Police confirmed a woman had been arrested on suspicion of assaulting two police officers and said a man was held on suspicion of a public order offence.

The force provided no further details of the arrests, but in a statement said: "At around 6pm on Saturday 24 October a number of protesters arrived at St Pancras rail station and officers worked to facilitate a peaceful protest.

"Around this time a number of other individuals arrived at the station causing disorder, and missiles, including smoke bombs were thrown at police officers."

Footage shot at the scene shows about 100 protesters breaking through police resistance to enter the station from Pancras Road, opposite King's Cross station.

Video also shows demonstrators, many wearing hoodies with their faces obscured by scarves, holding aloft large metal fences in clashes with riot police.

The scuffles took place as a group of No Borders campaigners partook in a protest calling for an end to immigration controls.

The pro-refugee demonstrators carried placards also calling for the closure of the Yarls Wood Immigration Removal Centre.

Joel Benjamin wrote on Twitter: "Utter carnage at Kings Cross station for migrants demo. Flares, Cops going in batons drawn."
