This photograph shows a man who allegedly let his dogs maul a Yorkshire Terrier to death before running off, leaving the tiny animal bleeding to death in his owner's arms.

Raquel Miravalles Quesada has been left heartbroken after the fatal attack on her dog Dylan at Thornton Heath Recreation Ground in Croydon, south London.

She said one of the two Staffordshire Bull Terrier types "suddenly jumped on my dog, who just lay down, face up, showing submission".

She has warned fellow dog owners on social media to be vigilant with their pets after the attack on Friday afternoon.

She said: "He bit him, shaking Dylan in the air for a couple of minutes. When he dropped him he was still alive, but the dog's owner and his companion refused to help me when I asked if they could call the emergency number."

Despite her pleas, she said the man and one other person ran out of the park with their dogs, leaving Ms Quesada giving her dog mouth-to-mouth. Sadly, he died minutes later.

"We want to warn everyone because this is going to happen again," she wrote on Facebook.

"When the attack happened he couldn't control the dogs.

"We think these guys, who had been drinking since the morning, cannot properly control two dangerous dogs."

Ms Quesada called on the authorities to track down the man and ban him from the park, where she claims to have seen him with his dogs since the attack.

Scotland Yard and Croydon Council have been contacted for comment.
