A man has been arrested after a pregnant woman was repeatedly punched and had a pillowcase pulled over her head in a terrifying street attack.

The 20-year-old woman had been walking in Manor Road, Stamford Hill, at about 6.30pm on Thursday (March 18) when she was approached from behind.

She told officers that her attacker had tried to pull a pillowcase over head before assaulting her. She was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

A man in his late fifties was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm at an address in Haringey on Monday night. He remained in custody on Tuesday morning.

Detectives are trying to establish a motive for the attack but they do not believe it is linked with any other incidents.

Since the assault, officers have been conducting patrols in the area to “provide reassurance to the local community”.

Call police on 101, quoting reference Cad 6517/18Mar, with information.
