A man has died and another injured after a BMW was allegedly driven at a group of men during a fight in a Marks and Spencer car park.

Police were called to Church Street in Walton-upon-Thames, Surrey, around 2.15pm on Thursday following reports that an altercation had taken place between a group of men.

Surrey Police said one of the men is alleged to have driven a white 1 series BMW at two of the other men.

One of the men, in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been informed.

A second man has been airlifted to hospital but is expected to recover, police said.

The owner of the vehicle, a 26-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

Police are not presently seeking anyone else in connection with this incident.

A cordon is in place behind the Marks and Spencer store and the car park is closed although the shop remains open.

Detective Chief Inspector Dave Springett said: “We understand that a serious incident like this has caused a lot of concern in the local community and we would like to reassure residents that we are doing everything we can to establish what has happened.

“From our initial enquiries, it appears that an altercation has taken place, leading to a physical confrontation, which then resulted in one of the group driving a car at two of the other men.

“Tragically, this has resulted in the death of one man and left another seriously injured and our thoughts are with their family and friends at this extremely difficult time.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or anyone who has any mobile phone or dashcam footage, is urged to come forward, quoting incident reference PR/P21083894.
