A teenager has handed himself into police after a suspected shoplifter was filmed gliding into a supermarket on a hoverboard and leaving with a case of Lucozade.

The 19-year-old turned up at a south London police station on Thursday after the clip was released by police and widely shared.

In the video, a man can be seen drifting into the Co-op in Streatham Road, Mitcham, on a self-balancing scooter, also known as a hoverboard or swegway.

The man picks up a case of the energy drink before performing a half-pirouette and then riding out of the store, apparently without paying. It was filmed at about 9.45pm on Sunday, September 6.

The 19-year-old was arrested on suspicion of theft at the police station.

He remains in police custody.
