A teenager was fighting for life in hospital today after a violent knife attack in north London.

The victim and his friend were ambushed by a large group of males in Hermit Street, Islington, at 6.50pm yesterday.

They fled a few hundred metres past City University’s campus to Hall Street where the 18-year-old boy collapsed in the road.

His friend, who was not hurt, is believed to have dialled 999 and he was rushed to hospital with serious head wounds and stab injuries. His condition is described as critical.

Detectives from the Met’s Trident gang crime unit are investigating. Officers cordoned off sections of both roads last night as investigations continued.

Islington Borough officers are carrying out increased its patrols in the local area.

Officers are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
