A teenager found with a foot-long knife dripping with blood has been locked up for 15 years after stabbing a man in an unprovoked attack.

Jonathan Kaggwa, 18, was detained by officers after running from police in Alexandra Road, Tottenham, following the attack shortly after midnight on February 18 this year.

Kaggwa, of Tiverton Road, was found with a large hunting style knife with a foot-long blade still dripping with blood and a second large kitchen knife was found hidden under his jacket.

In nearby Ida Road, a 21-year-old was bleeding heavily from three life-threatening stab wounds and was slipping in an out of consciousness.

He was taken by London’s Air Ambulance to the Royal London Hospital where he underwent life-save surgery.

The victim, who police said was unwilling to support the prosecution, has since recovered from his injuries.

During his trial, Kaggwa said he had been in the wrong place at the wrong time and claimed he had seen the real attacker run past.

He also claimed the attacker had thrown the knife towards him and he picked it up, which led to him being wrongly arrested.

Kaggwa was found guilty of attempted murder and two counts of possession of an offensive weapon and at Snaresbrook Crown Court on October 2, he was sentenced to 15 years detention in a young offender’s institution.

Detective Constable Stephen Bent, from Haringey CID, said: “This was an extremely violent attack in which Kaggwa stabbed a man several times.

“The injured man did not wish to assist with the investigation, however, there was enough evidence to proceed with a prosecution.

“I am pleased that this dangerous young man has been taken off the streets. We are determined to bring all offenders of violent assaults to justice."
