Terror arrests: Police charge Islam convert Richard Dart with four others over offences not linked to Olympics

Five people were appearing in court today charged with terror offences after a series of arrests in London.

Three men from London - including the white Muslim convert Richard Dart - are charged with offences involving travelling to Pakistan for training in terrorism between July 2010 and July 2012.

Dart, the son of Dorset teachers who appeared in a BBC Three documentary after converting to Islam, was one of seven people arrested over two days by the Met Counter Terrorism officers on July 5 and 7th.

Another man held was a former police community support officer. He was arrested at an address less than a mile from the Olympic Park.

A woman, Ruksana Begum, 22, of Provost Estate, Islington, is also charged with possessing terrorist material.

Two men and a woman were later released without charge.

Another man Khalid Baqa, 47, of Barking was arrested and charged yesterday with three counts of possession of terrorist material.

Scotland Yard saind none of the alleged offences was linked to the Olympics.

Dart, 29, of Ealing, Imran Mahmood, 21, of Northolt and Jahangir Alom, 26, a former PCSO of Stratford, are all charged with preparing for acts of terrorism between July 25, 2010 and July 6, 2012.

The three are alleged to have travelled to Pakistan for terrorism training, to have travelled abroad to commit acts of terrorism, and to have advised and counselled the commission of terrorist acts by providing information about travel to Pakistan and terrorism training, and operational security whilst there.

Begum is charged with possession of a micro digital memory card containing a document likely to be of use to a terrorist.
