A callous thief who stole a woman's handbag as she lay unconscious in the road has been jailed.

Craig Edwards, 35, was handed a sentence of eight months after admitting the theft at Westminster Magistrates' Court last Friday.

The 25-year-old woman was run over by a moped ridden by suspects wanted over a jewellery smash and grab at the Dorchester Hotel on June 10.

She was hit on Cambridge circus and was knocked unconscious and left injured in the street when Edwards approach and took her bag.

Edwards was arrested after an officer spotted him in the area two days after the theft after recognising him from CCTV.

The woman was later discharged from hospital.

Police are still appealing for information on the six men involved in the robbery at the Dorchester.
