Three men have been arrested on suspicion of the attempted murder of police officers in south London.

Scotland Yard said the group were held after the driver of a Citroen C4 car drove it towards the officers.

Police had been on routine patrols when they found the men "behaving suspiciously" in a car in Brixton at about 7.30pm yesterday.

They alerted the driver to stop, before the car was driven towards to the officers.

The vehicle then hit parked cars during the incident in Plato Road, before the 22-year-old driver was arrested along with two other occupants of the car as they tried to flee the scene on foot.

Knives and cannabis were allegedly found during searches of the car and men, and the driver was found with £1,000 cash.

All three of the suspects were taken to a south London police station where they remain in custody.

None of the officers suffered injuries.
