Three people hurled homophobic abuse at staff at an LGBT club in south London before “viciously” assaulting them, police said.
One worker suffered a fractured skull and another fractured their foot in the attack at Eagle London, in Vauxhall, in the early hours of July 2.
Police were called to the popular venue, known for its weekly drag shows and discos, following reports of an assault at 1.50am.
Two men, aged 42 and 30, and a woman, 20, were apparently upset at being asked to leave the venue’s smoking area.
They were then asked to leave the premises entirely after making homophobic remarks to staff.
But they quickly became violent and assaulted members of staff, leaving them with serious injuries.
The trio were taken into custody at a south London police station before being released under investigation.
Investigating officer, Detective Constable Phill Govett, from Lambeth, said: "This was a particularly vicious attack which stemmed from a minor incident and involved the use of homophobic language.
“Hate crime in any form will not be tolerated by police and we will take all possible action to bring perpetrators of these offences to justice."
