A toddler was treated for serious injuries in hospital after being bitten by a bulldog outside a supermarket in west London.

The two-year-old girl was bitten on the arm next to the Asda superstore in Hounslow at about 2.30pm on Sunday.

A spokesman for Scotland Yard said she was taken to hospital by paramedics, adding that she had not suffered a "facial mauling".

He said the white bulldog was on a lead chained to railings next to the supermarket when it bit the girl.

Police have spoken to the dog's owner and are appealing for witnesses to the attack in Prince Regent Road.
