A scooter rider accused of knocking down and killing renowned fashion journalist Marie Scott as she returned home from a night out in Soho with friends will stand trial next year.

Akram Mohamed, 25, allegedly hit the 75-year-old while on a Piaggio Typhoon scooter on May 7 last year as she walked back to her Holloway home at around 2.40am.

Ms Scott, a well-known fashion writer and commentator on men’s tailoring for more than five decades, was the editor of Savile Row magazine for 16 years and a leading figure in the industry.

She met long-term partner John Taylor when they worked together at Tailor and Cutter magazine in the 1960s, and they went on to found their own magazine called British Style.

On the night of the crash, Ms Scott was returning home after a night out with friends at Gerry’s Club in Soho.

She died at the scene of the crash, in Parkhurst Road, Holloway, while Mohamed was also badly hurt.

He appeared at the Old Bailey today (tues) to deny causing death by careless driving and causing death by driving a vehicle while uninsured.

Judge Stephen Kramer QC freed Mohamed, who lives in Finsbury Park, on bail until a trial which is due to take place on February 5.
