A teenager is fighting for life after a being repeatedly stabbed on a housing estate in south London.

Terrified residents of the Tulse Hill Estate said a large of group of youths gathered and were “shooting fireworks” before the incident in the early hours of Thursday.

Emergency services were called to Leander Road at 12.43am following reports of a car on fire.

The Met Police, London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service all attended and found a 19-year-old man suffering from multiple stab wounds.

He was taken to a central London hospital where he remains in a critical condition, police said.

One resident told the Standard: “Gangs were vandalising the playground shooting heavy fireworks on the ground towards objects and cars.

“They were throwing them from upper levels of the estate on people that were parking, children were present as well.

“It has been going on for weeks. It is obviously a big inconvenience for people that live there and have to work the next day or have children and want to feel safe.”

A Met Police spokesman said: "No arrests have been made and enquiries continue. A crime scene remains in place."

The incident came after a young man was stabbed to death in a brawl involving baseball bats in Enfield, north London, on Wednesday evening.

The teenager, 16, was arrested on suspicion of murder and violent disorder a short while later.
