A teenage boy was fighting for his life in hospital today after being shot outside a north London Tube station.
Friends of the victim, 17, carried him into a chicken shop and used clothing to stem the bleeding as they pleaded, “Just wake up”, a witness said.
Police and medics arrived at the scene by Turnpike Lane station at about 11.15pm last night. The youth was taken to hospital and remains in a critical condition.
His attack came 24 hours after another teenager, 18, was critically injured in a suspected drive-by shooting in Maida Hill.
This morning, a cordon was in place on roads around Turnpike Lane as Haringey police were granted extra stop and search powers.
Waqas Siddique, 34, a delivery driver at Roosters Piri Piri, was inside when a group of young men burst in carrying the injured teenager.
He said: “Three of his friends were carrying him by the legs and the hands. He was unconscious, they were shouting at him, ‘Just wake up’.
“He had been shot in the chest. We tried to ask what had happened but they were just shouting, ‘Bring water, bring cloths’.”
Another witness said: “I’ve been told it was a drive-by, something gang-related.” In London 25 teenagers have been killed so far this year, amid rising violent crime fuelled by drugs.
A Met spokeswoman said: “Officers are investigating. No arrests have been made.” Anyone with information should call police on 101.
