A physical education student who was murdered in a street fight has been officially identified by police.

Patrick Lawless, 20, from Twickenham, died from head injuries after a fight near a pub in the High Street in Teddington, south west London, on Saturday.

Violence broke out near the Royal Oak pub just before 10pm, and around two hours later, shortly after midnight on Sunday morning, police were called when the student collapsed.

Two other people were hurt in the fight. One remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition, while the other suffered only minor injuries.

It was believed he had been injured in the mass punch-up but had managed to stagger away, only to collapse from his wounds.

He was rushed to accident and emergency in a critical condition but died at Kingston Hospital a short time later.

So far, four men have been arrested, including a 20-year-old on suspicion of murder who remains in custody.

Another two, also 20, were held on suspicion of assault and have been bailed until mid-December, and the fourth, aged 21, who was arrested at a house in Richmond, has also been bailed.
