Two people have been arrested after a man was fatally injured in a shooting.

A 24-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man, both from Dartford, Kent, were held on suspicion of murder early this morning, Kent Police said.

The pair were known to the 32-year-old victim who was discovered injured in Overy Street, Dartford, at around 8pm yesterday.

The man, who has not yet been formally identified, was reported to have suffered a gunshot wound.

He was taken to hospital but later died from his injuries. His family have been informed.

Police sought to reassure the local community, saying the incident was not a random act.

Chief Superintendent Neil Jerome said: "I'd like to reassure the people of Dartford that we are not treating this as a random incident, and those we have arrested were known to the victim."

He appealed to anyone with information to call Kent Police on 101.
