Two men accused of being part of a gang of five thugs who allegedly beat an American student and attacked him with a bottle have been charged.

Kamrul Hussain, 22, and Shadhat Hussain, 19, are both accused of causing grievous bodily harm with intent during an attack in Shadwell, east London.

American student Francesco Hounye, 22, was allegedly surrounded by a gang of Asian men who targeted him because he was "obviously not local".

He was on his way home from a night out in Brick Lane with a 23-year-old friend in June when he was allegedly set upon by a group of men.

A third man, 20-year-old Shelim Uddin, has also been charged in connection with the incident. Uddin, of Romford Street, Whitechapel, will appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court on January 24 charged with grievous bodily harm with intent.

Kamrul Hussain, of Stepney Way, is due at Snaresbrook Crown Court on December 10, and Shadhat Hussain, of Malmesbury Terrace in Canning Town, is due in court on January 24.
