A waiter stole nearly £1,000 worth of luxury honey from Holland & Barrett before he was snared after repeatedly targeting the same shop.

Zoman Ahmed raided the health store three times in eight days, stealing hundreds of pounds worth of Manuka honey on each occasion.

The honey is imported from New Zealand and Australia and costs up to £60 per jar at Holland & Barrett, with some claiming it has medicinal benefits.

Ahmed, 20, from Tower Hamlets, first struck on June 1 when CCTV footage recorded him stuffing six jars - worth £275 in total - into a carrier bag and leaving without paying.

He went back to the same store in Gracechurch Street on June 4 and swiped £125 worth of honey.

He raided the shop a third time on June 8 and snatched jars worth a whopping £507.

The shoplifter was eventually arrested on June 17 by a City of London Police officer who recognised him outside another branch of Holland & Barrett on Cheapside.

Police said the 20-year-old's "downfall" was wearing the same outfit on every visit.

Ahmed was last week jailed for four months at City of London Magistrates’ Court for the thefts totalling £907.

Detective David Harrigan said: "Ahmed was confident enough to visit the same store repeatedly to steal expensive honey thinking he would get away with it.

"However by wearing the same clothes on each visit, this led to his downfall and subsequent arrest."
