Two construction workers were today due in court over the hacking to death of a British couple in Tobago, according to reports.

Lawyer Richard Wheeler, who had trained in London, and his wife Grace were found dead at their home in the Caribbean six days ago.

The body of Mrs Wheeler, 67, was discovered first by a gardener at her Carnbee home, Trinidad and Tobago Police Service said.

Detectives found her unresponsive on the lawn with a cut to the neck before finding Mr Wheeler face down in a pool of blood with “chop wounds” to both arms and the back of the head.

Mr Wheeler, who had lived in Sheffield after attending law school in the British capital, was a partner at the firm Lex Caribbean.

Assistant Police Commissioner Vincel Edwards said one suspect was a Tobago man and the other was from St Vincent.
