A woman is in hospital after being stabbed with a pair of scissors in an "appalling" attack at her home in south-east London.

The 24-year-old victim was set upon by a man who entered her home in Sidcup, where she was with her partner.

After wounding her with scissors, the man ran away from the scene in Cleve Road at around 11.30pm on Thursday night.

Detective Chief Inspector Gary Holmes said: "This is an appalling crime but I would like to reassure the community of Bexley that my team are actively hunting for the person responsible so that he can be arrested at the earliest opportunity."

The victim was taken to hospital where she remains with serious injuries, police said.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said enquiries are ongoing.

Police are now appealing for anyone who was in the Cleve Road area at the time and who saw a man running to contact them.

Witnesses can contact Bexley CID on 0208 284 9257 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
