The father of a woman who was hounded by a wealthy City fund manager has revealed how she has fled London after her stalker was jailed for trying to kill her family.

Public relations executive Hannah Rhind, 30, has been so disturbed by the banker’s near-fatal obsession that she is pursuing a new life abroad.

Shumsheer Ghumman, 33, was sentenced to nine years in prison yesterday for trying to employ a hitman to murder Miss Rhind’s oil executive father Philip at his home in Cape Town — and then trying to do the job himself.

He offered an alleged gangster £850, but when the man pulled out Ghumman threw Molotov cocktails at the Rhind family’s seafront villa.

Cape Town magistrates’ court was told the plot failed only because high winds blew out the flames.

The Indian-born Australian citizen, who worked in the London office of Japanese asset management firm Daiwa, became obsessed with Miss Rhind after meeting her at a party in 2009.

Mr Rhind, 57, said: “Even after his arrest she felt uncomfortable. Now she’s gone to make a fresh start.”

In October 2010 Ghumman was convicted of harassment at Westminster magistrates’ court.

He appealed and, to stop Mr Rhind giving evidence, launched his plot. He was found guilty of charges including attempted murder.
