GCSE exam success for Olympic taekwondo star Lutalo Muhammad's brother

24 August 2012

Olympic medallist Lutalo Muhammad had fresh cause for celebration today after his brother received his GCSE results.

Two weeks after winning a bronze at London 2012, the taekwondo fighter was at his old school to watch Zak, 16, open the envelope to find he had passed eight subjects with marks from A* to C.

“It’s fantastic — he has done really well,” said Muhammad, 21. “I woke up really early so I could go down with him. I was really happy for him as I know he worked so hard. I’m just really proud.

“It has been a great 2012 for the Muhammad family.”

Zak, who studied PE, history, IT and geography as well as the core subjects at Holy Family Technology College in Walthamstow, said: “It was nice my brother came down, although his eyes were on me like a hawk. It felt good to know my work has paid off and that I got the results I wanted.”

Zak is planning to start a computing course next month, but insisted he too could be a taekwondo Olympian if he puts his mind to it. Muhammad agreed and said it would be “wonderful” to go to the Rio Games together.

“He has got the ability. If he focuses and gives it 100 per cent, he might be nearly as good as me,” he joked. “To go and dominate it together, that would be a good opportunity.

“Although I would have to watch what I did if he was there and reporting to mum.”
