A guide to A-level results

For the past few days, students across the United Kingdom have been preparing for potentially life-changing news: A-level results.

The test scores, which will be released on Thursday, determine university placement. And while this might mean pressure for some, Education Editor Richard Garner urges students not to worry.

For the first time, institutions can recruit as many students as they would like. This new practice creates more places in the upcoming year, which may come as a relief to students who didn’t score as well as predicted.

And for those who exceeded their expectations? These next few days can be used to re-evaluate his or her chosen school. Students in this category may decide to apply to ‘better’ universities through a process called Adjustment, which allows them to seek space at a different university without losing their current offer.

Whatever the results may be, Garner’s best advice for students is to act fast. Resist the urge to either party or panic – there will be plenty of time for both over the next four years. Instead carefully and quickly review your options to ensure you find what’s best for you.
