Haringey introduces 'pupil passports' to boost results

1 March 2013

A London borough where a failing primary school was forced to become an academy is issuing all children with education passports to improve results.

Haringey is introducing the “pupil passport” after Downhills school was taken out of local authority control and handed to the Harris Federation because of poor results. An inquiry into education in the borough found there was too much variation in quality between schools, and no confidence in the local authority. It also criticised lack of co-ordination between schools.

The pupil passport is designed to help children settle in whenever they move. It will keep track of exam results and their strengths and weaknesses. The pilot scheme will start by September.
